Enter the fun-time. This is when I would take off, but not fully understand the value/ethics of originality. The year began rough. In my typical melodrama, I fell into my music as a way to cope. As one can tell, the titles of my first few compositions are a bit dark.
I also would create the score for Cyber Attack in this year, marking my first true test.

January 28th, 2017 - Fin/Or Is It? (dun dun dun)
Very slow. At least I understood how chords/melodies worked. HOWEVER! I straight up rip-off Doctor Who's Series 5 vibe/melody there at the end. If I had to grade, it would be a 0% for plagiarism. Not cool. |
January 28th, 2017 - Falling Through Time (Emo Version)
Yes. Emo me. Just the same moody sad chords over and over and over and over and over... Incidentally, this was also the last piece I ever composed on my famed iPod Touch 5th Gen. Rest in Peace, you didn't deserve to have your screen broken. Those loan sharks... |
March 20th, 2017 - A Grim Situation
The first piece composed on my MacBook Air (2017). Wait... Not 2017? Surely it's the latest model? Nope. I got screwed over by BestBuy, who gave me an Early 2015 MacBook Air 13". I don't know about you, but when it's March of 2017, I don't think an Early 2015 counts as the "Latest Model." |
April 1st, 2017 - Beginning the Expedition
I don't even know what to say. |
April 4th, 2017 - Thanks for Everything
What is this title even? No loops were used, but arpeggiator was my friend in this instance. I even made two versions.

April 21st, 2017 - Buckle Up
Is this supposed to be rousing or something? I don't think I knew how to staccato my instruments, actually... |
May 1st, 2017 - Cyber Attack Main Theme (Workprint Version)
My first attempt at a decent version of the Cyber Attack theme. Ideas were there, but my production skills were severely underdeveloped. However, I was only 14 at the time. Also, melody at the beginning (I would later find out) is actually Blue Skies by Frank Sinatra. |
May 15th, 2017 - Martin Vanderlue: The Remix
I don't even know. Just an experiment made from samples of my friend's short film. |
May 29th, 2017 - Some Action Music
It's a bit of cheesy fun. It falls apart at the end, but this was quite innovative for me at the time. |
June 2nd, 2017 - "That Sounds Fun"
I had been composing for a little over a year at this point. This piece serves as a distillation of what I'd learned in that time. No MIDI loops. No arpeggiator. I use chords, melodies and a simple structure. |
June 23rd, 2017 - Agent X
More good spy fun. |
June 23rd, 2017 - Strange Occurances (Occurrences)
Interesting piece. I was less interested in imitation, as I was INTIMIDATION. |
June 23rd, 2017 - Adagio for Strings
My first attempt to write a nameless string piece. There are times when the string's repetition/poor timing make it seem like a comedy of a piece. Indeed, it is laughably poor. |
June 23rd, 2017 - Black Knight Probe
Yes, paranormal YouTube interested me at age 14. I found a video about some "Black Knight Probe" which was supposedly sent to Earth by aliens. I wrote a piece and was like "that's a cool name." |
June 23rd, 2017 - Out The Window, Through The Stars
A real departure from my normal timbre. I was inspired by the YouTuber Jacksfilms, who wrote songs somewhat in this style, though much better. It actually has lyrics somewhere, but if I find them, I will definitely delete them. |
July 5th, 2017 - The Decline
Finally, a piece which doesn't sound entirely terrible. This piece was quite a development in terms of style, though it is incredibly repetitive. |
July 17th, 2017 - The Wormhole
One of my favorites from 2017. All my ideas were here. In fact, they were all original. This piece was difficult to write. However, I had a very specific vision, which was a new thing for me. Up to this point, I was merely imitating others. However, "The Wormhole" is the first instance when I heard the piece wholly in my head, I only had to write it down. The orchestral version is the ultimate version. It almost sounds like like a waltz. Waltz of The Wormhole. As I stated, something truly from my mind.

July 19th, 2017 - Into The Wormhole
A sequel to "The Wormhole." This piece also had vision, but is poorly executed. However, this is also one of my favorites from 2017. Especially the last part, beginning at 1:53. |
July 21st, 2017 - A Wormhole is Another World
Another sequel to "The Wormhole." I decided a cool-ish sounding synth would serve this piece well. Aside from a strange clipping issue, it's simple enough to sound like it was executed well. |
July 26th, 2017 - The End of Time
For the time, this was very well-executed for my skill-level. I still enjoy the simple harmonies and chords used in this piece. It has a bittersweet quality. |
September 9th, 2017 - It's That Type of Day
Another failed attempt at a "pop-ish" piece. My choice of instruments is strange. That is to say, they don't seem to work together very well. I think the array should have been reduced to something more manageable for the audience. |
September 11th, 2017 - Destroying the Wormhole
What? Another Wormhole Piece? Yes, this is in-fact the fourth piece from the "Wormhole Series." I simply felt that the themes were incredible. At this point, my orchestration skills were developing rapidly. Also, one may notice that on my album Three (2020), I have a piece titled precisely the same as this piece. That is because this piece was a precursor to the later piece in most ways. |
October 25th, 2017 - I'm Back
The fifth installment of the "Wormhole Series." Again, it uses the same themes and orchestral elements as Destroying the Wormhole. |
October 30th, 2017 - Bandura Charm
Definitely an experiment in timbre. My arpeggiation is not automated, but simple all the same. This would be later featured on my album Empty Spaces (2019), perhaps one of the oldest pieces on that album. |
November 17th, 2017 - Chance
Aside from the winds that never breathe, this is an example of my development as a composer. Listening back on this piece, I can hear my understanding of melodic interplay/motifs developing. |
December 28th, 2017 - The End of a Long Road
This was written to be "Mingle Music." Ambiance to be played during the social time of the Cyber Attack premier. It has a mood of sentimentality. I remember composing this among my immediate family members on Christmas Day, 2017. |
December 28th, 2017 - Cyber Attack on Piano
The Cyber Attack theme, distilled for piano and featured on the album release of the short film score Cyber Attack (2018). |
