On the making of MISSION

MISSION is a passion project by a single college student over three years of production.

This is the story.

MMXXII-MMXXIII

Before MISSION was a feature documentary, it went through multiple stages of development. From years 2022 through 2023, initial footage was taken for a series of YouTube videos meant to promote the St. Brendan Catholic Campus Ministry (Then called the Tarleton CCM). This footage was archived after the initial YouTube videos were made.

Summer MMXXIII

During summer of 2023, major progress of development on the identity of the Tarleton CCM had been made. During leadership meetings, it had been suggested by myself, the creator of the project, that a short documentary could be made of the CCM. In an effort to communicate the community and love which I had personally felt through the CCM, I began the project. Initially, it was three short videos, interviewing the leadership and alumni of the Ministry, following the thesis of the Ministry's guiding words: scire, amare and juvare.

MMXXIII-MMXXIV

With the start of the 2023-2024 school year, principal photography began on MISSION. Initially starting as a series of YouTube videos, it evolved into a half-hour short film. However, the potential of the project became evident. When filming completed on the first section, "Scire," the roughly edited project played more as the opening to something bigger. The documentary would need more than one episode.

Approaching the end of the seventh episode in spring 2024, it became clearer that this project would affect more people in a different format. MISSION lived most of its life in production as a docuseries. However, with the start of the fall 2024 semester, the initiative to edit MISSION into a feature film began.
